New 8-track release from Laura Lies In bozz James Marrs is a sick one. Love ‘Caving’ , a monolithic slab of bass-heavy, decelerated, dustbin-lid-driven tekno / EBM, whose brute-minimalism – rendered uncanny with queasy violin drones and pocked and studded with Marrs' signature pitched-down, percussive vocal stabs – is a commanding update of the sound your man explored on his underrated previous releases for Syncom Data’s SD and Jacktone. Would kill to hear this tune in a club. To be fair would kill to hear the Macarena, Foreigner, anything in a club at the moment. ‘What’s on your mind?’ wrings unlikely rave juice out of what sounds basically like 10 different abandoned high-street retail units’ alarm systems all kickin in at once; ‘Preaching’ is a lithe broken stepper which is way more T++-esque than most things we say are T++-esque; and the tuff, agitated polyrhythms of ‘Watching Clocks’ sound like Don Zilla being stalked by Musica Elettronica Viva. Proper good.
