Honeymoon With Solitude

We promised XVARR we’d make his new tape available on Monday – to coincide with the Blood Moon obvz– but earthly earthly obstacles (out to Parcelforce, TfL, Halfords MOT Test Centre ++) made that impossible. So here it is, now: Honeymoon With Solitude, 21 tracks recorded in South London / Ultima Thule in the past few months, self-released via his Twin Womb label, and a very worthy successor to last year’s meteor-shower of Beyond Illuminism / Aeons Revolve / Serpent Power. Highest-grade, dilated-pupil kosmische, Isolationist electronics and subdued death-ray drones, occasionally reminiscent of the darker Strange Life CDRs (Sammy Osmo, Smackos, Heinrich Dressel etc) and the purist Prophet-5 stargazing peddled by Anna Klara and the Per Musica Ad Astra label, but as usual XVARR brings a hard-earned, hidden-reverse intensity to his creations which sets him well apart. Particularly wistful this one, full of wonder and ruefulness alike, as if the intrepid spaceman finally found his way to the dark side of the moon only to find it looks exactly like Forest Hill on a wet Sunday afternoon.
