Tomás Tello
Cimora
Dizzying insectoid rhythm trips, dainty DIY dream-logic and humid, heavily psychoactive atmospheres massively recommended for anyone into Raymonde’s recent stuff (Everybody Loves Raymonde), Vilod, O Yuki Conjugate or the knottiest bits of the Gewissen tape…

Over the last decade Tavira-based multi-instrumentalist Tomas Tello has mounted an intense personal exploration of Peruvian music, in particular the Andean culture he grew up with. Working with native instruments - quenas, drums, charangos - as well as minimal synth textures, field recordings and an array of effects-pedals - he effortlessly transcends Fourth World cliche, conjuring a haunted weather that feels mysterious and dense and pupil-dilatingly intense but also has moments of heart-stopping delicacy and lyricism to it, with some limpid, lo-fi, Casio-daubed chamber-folk motifs that weirdly make me think of stuff like Jane & Barton, Virginia Astley, instrumental Flaming Tunes….
